This is a REMOTE, project-based position.

Overview

The WordPress Developer has strong experience building custom WordPress sites, knowledge of and experience with using a wide range of plug-ins, working with Bootstrap, building customized sites starting from a minimal theme, and ability to write HTML, CSS, Javascript, and PHP. This person should be able to work from provided wireframes in Illustrator or Sketch to build out components and/or pages in WordPress to specifications. Importantly, we seek a person who works in a consultative manner, offering their thoughtful opinions on the best way to approach tasks, with an eye to creating standardized workflows, efficiencies, and reusable components.

 


Responsibilities & Duties

Core Responsibilities

Working from provided specifications, wireframes, and design comps, build out custom WordPress websites, or provide assistance to our lead WordPress developer on same..

Day-to-Day Responsibilities (per project)

  1. Set up the dev site on Pantheon’s dev-test-live environment
  2. Connect with git to manage versioning
  3. Communicate regularly and as scheduled with the project team
  4. Build out the back end of the site
  5. Provide support in coding the frontend of the site
  6. Adherence to best practices for accessibility

Nice-to-Have (not required)

  1. Contributed WordPress plug-ins
  2. Experience with Gutenberg (we’re not using it yet)
  3. Client-facing experience
  4. Experience implementing at least level AA of the WCAG accessibility standards.

Qualifications & Skills

You should have at least three solid years experience in building fairly complicated, custom, WordPress websites. If your primary experience involves implementing themes that someone else created, this job is not a match for your experience. You should have a working knowledge of frontend code.
